Project Manager CV Example

A project manager's CV should show that you deliver: on time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the people who asked for the work. For each role, describe the projects you ran, their size in budget, team and duration, the delivery method you used and what the outcome was. Evidence of managing risk, stakeholders and suppliers matters as much as the plan itself.

This example follows UK conventions: two pages at most, British spelling and a personal statement at the top.

Example project manager personal statement

Example work experience bullet points

  • Recovered a delayed office relocation project by re-planning the critical path and renegotiating supplier milestones, completing the move before the lease expiry.
  • Introduced a standard risk and issue log across the project team, improving the quality of escalation to sponsors.

How to write your project manager CV

  • Give the size of each project: budget, team, duration and number of stakeholders or sites.
  • State the outcome and how it compared with the plan. If a project was difficult, show how you managed it.
  • Name your delivery methods and qualifications with the awarding body.
  • Organise long or contract-based careers by project so that the reader sees delivery, not just job titles.
  • Use ranges or descriptions where exact budgets or client names are confidential.

UK CV or US resume?

PRINCE2 and the Association for Project Management (APM) qualifications are widely recognised in the UK, while the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute is the most common credential in the US and is recognised in both countries. For a US application, call the document a resume, use American spelling and dollar amounts, keep to two pages at most and open with a short summary.

Frequently asked questions

What should a project manager CV include?

A personal statement, a skills section, experience that sets out projects with their size and outcome, qualifications such as PRINCE2, APM or PMP, and education. Delivery results should be the focus throughout.

Do I need a project management qualification?

It is not always required, but many adverts ask for one and it helps with screening. Employers weigh a record of delivered projects heavily, so present your experience clearly whether or not you are certified.

How do I show project management experience if it was not my job title?

Describe the projects you led within other roles: the goal, the people involved, the plan, the budget if any and the result. Use project management terms from the advert where they accurately describe what you did.
